Dear Colleague,
We couldn’t agree more – there are way too many partnering
conferences and “pay-to-play” meetings focused on a hot topic du
jour and featuring the sponsoring companies’ canned investor
presentations.
But there is only one Therapeutic Insight, Defined
Health’s business development strategy conference. The
differences between Therapeutic Insight and the
other conferences are numerous and are best summed up by regular
participant and attendee Fred Frank of Peter J. Solomon Company when he
described our meeting as "anything but another conference.”
Why is Therapeutic Insight anything but
another conference?
The
meeting is unique in both concept and content and is intensely
forward-looking, which provides attendees with clear competitive
advantage.
Therapeutic Insight
lives at the intersection of evolving biopharmaceutical business
models, licensing and business development and disease area
strategy. Since the meeting’s inception in 2001,
forward-looking topics and panels have shed light on issues
facing Pharma and Biotech companies today, including challenges
to the blockbuster business model, the need for Pharma companies
to “focus down” to a limited number of therapeutic franchises,
the push to externalize R&D and even potential deconstruction of
the industry along core competency lines.
The speaker roster is world-class.
Few, if any, conferences attract the caliber of speakers that
contribute to Therapeutic Insight. This year, we
are happy to welcome back Fred Frank and Stelios Papadopoulos,
as well as to have Dennis Purcell, Karen Bernstein and many
other noted industry leaders and clinicians on the program.
The meeting is refreshingly free of “commercials” and repetitive
content.
Speakers are invited and selected on the merits of their
recognized expertise and relevance to topic and not because they
“paid to play.” Senior Defined Health consultants spend hours
on pre-meeting conference calls to ensure that panelists are
engaged by and have meaningful discussion to contribute to the
key discussion topics.
Disease area panels focus on therapeutic categories promising
transformative growth potential.
This year panels will address oncology, pain, COPD, frailty in
aging and biosimilars and “next generation” biologicals.
Quality as opposed to quantity of attendees.
Each year Therapeutic Insight attracts more
than 100 attendees from the highest levels of management in the
biopharmaceutical and investment industries. These executives
range across disciplines as diverse as Corporate Management
Business Development, New Product Development and R&D.
Therapeutic Insight has one of the highest
concentrations of actual decision makers of any industry
conference.
Intense audience participation.
Every Therapeutic Insight meeting features
extensive and often intense back and forth between panelists and
the audience. These dialogs are often so thought-provoking that
they have been described by one attendee as “mind-bending.”
Boundary-pushing keynote speakers.
Each year, Therapeutic Insight has featured a
world-renowned keynote speaker to push thinking outside the
routine. Past speakers have included the leading health
economist Uwe Reinhardt, PhD and noted bioethicist Arthur Caplan,
MD.
This year, we are proud to welcome Stephen H. Friend, MD, PhD,
Senior Vice President & Franchise Head, Oncology Merck Research
Laboratories, who will present:
Emerging Approaches
for Translational Medicine: How One Might Break Through Existing
Clinical Inefficiencies.
Open Access
Bionetwork Platforms as Contributor Engines to Evolve Disease
Models.
Networking that actually works!
The intellectual stimulation and general out-of-the-box feeling
that pulses throughout Therapeutic Insight means
that people are networking with their minds engaged. This type
of networking is all too rare and offers a refreshing and
productive alternative to large impersonal crowds as well as
“speed-dating” formats. So, although Therapeutic Insight
is not run or promoted as a partnering meeting (there are surely
enough of those!) the conversations that begin at our conference
have a way of continuing.
I am incredibly proud of Therapeutic Insight and
the experience it provides to both our speakers and attendees.
I hope you will make time to join us in New York on April 1 and
2, 2009. You may find more information on the program,
speakers, attendees and logistics on our website,

Best wishes,

Ed Saltzman
